Update May 12, 2012

UPDATE: DOPPLER FORM DOWNLOAD
06.09.2012

We have been unable to retrieve the health clinic's Echo data from Bari Olivier. As you all know, the Health Committee asks the providers from each health clinic to send the data directly to the researcher in order to secure confidentiality, so only the reseaarcher and the provider have the information.

I am making every effort to retrieve all the echo data from the health clinic providers. As you can see from the list below, I need help from the participants at the 2006, 2007 and 2008 clinics. You can help by sending a copy of your BT's echo report to Dr. Meurs.

2006 Boston - information unavailable from Dr. Morris. Clinic participants send your report to Dr. Meurs
2007 Gettysburg - information unavailable from Dr. Morris. Clinic participants send your report to Dr. Meurs
2008 Orlando - information unavailable from Dr. Spier. Clinic participants send your report to Dr. Meurs
2009 (no clinic)
2010 Pittsburgh - Dr. Sikorska sending echo data to Dr. Meurs
2011 Orlando - Dr. Spier sent ech data to Dr. Meurs

If you are doing Echo/Dopplers on your Bull Terriers and would like to participate in this study, send the reports to Dr. Meurs. All information in this study will be kept confidential.

Dr. Meurs is working on a new Echo/Doppler data form for your Cardiologist's use in recording and forwarding reports to the study. It will be available for download soon.

HEART STUDY MOVES TO NORTH CAROLINA STATE UNIVERSITY
from Susan Murphy

The Health Committee has discussed the heart study, currently with Dr. Bari Olivier at MSU, at great length and has concluded that after six years into this project, with a good amount of data submitted by our membership, there should be some statistical information that would move us on to the next step. However, that is not the case, thus our decision to move the study to Dr. Kate Meurs at North Carolina State University.

This was a major decision, but if we are going to move forward with this project, we felt that Dr. Meurs was the person to help us. I am sure you are all aware of Dr. Meurs' work in Cardiology with Dobermans and Boxers with issues including Subvalvular Aortic Stenosis, Dilated Cardiomyopathy and Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy. If you would like to know more about Dr. Meurs, she has a very interesting podcast on the AKC Canine Health Foundation's website. You can reach it at http://www.akc-akcchf.libsyn.com.

In making this decision, we made sure that we were able to secure all previously submitted data from Dr. Olivier and have it forwarded to Dr. Meurs at NCSU. In the meantime, hold on to any test data you may have until we finalize directions for submitting new data to Dr. Meurs. We are excited that Dr. Meurs has accepted our Bull Terriers and the study and are hopeful to move forward soon, but it is going to take us awhile to get up and running since Dr. Meurs just transferred to NCSU as Associate Dean - Research. We will make every effort to have all the information to you as soon as possible
