BTCA Rescue Support is reporting an alarming number of young Bull Terriers given up by their owners due to severe health and temperament problems. These dogs, who have not been properly socialized, are being imported from outside the U.S. with no regard to recommended health testing for the sire and dam (parents). They are being sold in excess of $2000.00 each and are not AKC registered. These owners have little recourse to recover their purchase price and these dogs are not eligible for showing or breeding a registered litter. If you are looking for a Bull Terrier, contact Claudia Sharp, Corresponding Secretary BTCA. As Corresponding Secretary of the BTCA, she has a list of available puppies and can refer you to the closest regional club for additional information and support. Please include City, State and Full name when requesting information. Also, check our Events for specialty shows near you. Find out if a Bull Terrier is the right dog for you. A reputable breeder will be able to supply you with copies of health testing results for BAER (hearing), heart, kidneys and patellas on both the sire and dam of your puppy. Temperament is of utmost importance to a reputable breeder. You should be able to see the dam of the litter. The sire of the litter is usually not owned by the breeder. Reputable breeders devote a lot of love and attention to their litters. They breed for healthy bullies with sound temperaments! Puppy
prices vary, you should be able to find a quality puppy for less than
one of questionable origin.
