Updated 08/20/2009 In June we had the Golden State Bull Terrier Club Specialty at the Queen Mary Events Park. What a lovely show site, and it was so nice to just celebrate Terriers all weekend. Our judges were Allison Ibbitson, Robert Shreve, and Scott Ibbitson.Our two Sweepstakes judges were Gregory Anderson and Tina Johnson Bowen. Our ring overlooked the ocean and there was a nice breeze in the afternoon off of the water. We had custom
trophies by Candy Aron and Dr. Kristy Utt, and Carla Cummings donated
bull terrier motif trophies as always. Carla and Cyndi are known as our
club's "Secret Shoppers" I don't know how they do it, but they
always find the cutest BT goodies. Our raffle was organized by Cyndi Farrington
with some help from Rhonda Walthall and Larry Lester. The luncheon of
cold sandwiches on Friday, and Candy's favorite fried chicken on Saturday
were a big hit as always. Taryn Johnston always organizes wonderful food
& desert on FRI & SAT,with help from the membership and the Minnie
Bull Terrier People, and then host's coffee and Danish on Sunday….Hal
Stewart manned the Sales Table. We saw lots of old friends and tons of new ones. We had a good entry which was nice because the economy was a concern. Our members however didn't let the economy bother them, we took in a record amount on our auction and even had a few silent auction items…Kristy Utt donated some artwork, and if you didn't know it Kristy is an award winning artist now! Jim Farrington took his usual nap ringside with Mackenzie, along with Ray Moore and Bubbles the Basset. Michael & Karen Morris took pictures all weekend. I'm sure some of them will end up on the website if BJ gets time. Kevin Whelan our Basset-Bull Terrier Member was there showing Meatball who belongs to Wendi Friedman a new member who also assisted with the luncheon. Natasha Lerner was kind enough to give Robert Shreve a ride to the airport, thanks Natasha! It came to the Club's attention that David Merriam has been paying his dues to Golden State a long time, so on Friday Candy presented David with a plaque and a lifetime membership-- and it only took a little over 50 years for us to notice! Other Members making the scene included; David & Carolyn Alexander, Bill & Pat Edwards, Michelle Gilbert, BJ and Jessica Apostol, Dick & Gayle Denman, Duff & Susie Harris, Marla & Andrew Conti, Jack Hoxmeier, Linda Lethin, Ray & Barbara Moran, Stefanie Pelka, Linda Woodruff, Larry & Rhonda Walthall, David Grimsrud & Rhonda Surfas, Deb McFeely. In December 2009 the AKC is celebrating their 125th anniversary at the AKC Invitational at Long Beach. We will be holding 2ROM shows there. It is in December and our judges are Gail Pew & David Merriam. We are planning a huge celebration! We will have special trophies, T-shirts and hospitality.
