Where has the year gone? For a few of our rescue committee members they can surely tell you where it has taken them. From January to the end of October, 2008, The Blue Ridge Bull Terrier Club has rescued over 44 bull terriers. The quantity of dogs we have and are still receiving from area shelters has put an extreme strain on our volunteers. The majority of the dogs we have been receiving are in need of extensive veterinary services and constant attendance. I don’t need to remind you all of how wonderful the people are who volunteer to take on this passionate cause of helping these bullies. Many of our members that are unable to volunteer their time have helped with financial donations and we thank them, “one and all”.

We have worked exceptionally hard this past year to raise awareness of the breed, educate the public, and gather support for veterinary services. In March, we set up our popular booth at the Chantilly, VA, Super-Pet-Expo. With members bringing their bullies to staff the booth we always draw in the crowds to see, “what kind of dog is that?” August was time for our Annual Picnic/Auction which we held in Fredericksburg, VA. It was hot but we were located right on the river and a few of the bullies ventured in to cool off. More recent, October 4th (St. Francis of Assisi Day) we sponsored our first Bully Palooza & Pet Blessing at the historic Bull Run Park (get it – Bull Run) in Manassas, Virginia, and in November we set up at the annual “Home 4 the Holidays” in Reston, VA. An event comprised of 21 rescue leagues hosted by GoodDogz.org. With the end of 2008 drawing near and the Holidays approaching we will have our annual Holiday Party & Bully Auction which is a great time for members to get together and recap the year’s events and plan for the future.

With the vast number of rescue dogs appearing on the scene we are in continued need of foster homes for these loving bull terriers. If you live in the mid-Atlantic region and would like to volunteer to foster a rescued bull terrier please contact one of the rescue committee members on our webpage www.brbtc.com

Best wishes to you all in 2009 from the Blue Ridge Bull Terrier Club, Inc.
