REVISED 12/31/01

ROM Changes

At the November meeting of the BTCA Board the ROM point system was again discussed at length.  It was decided, in response to input from the membership and guidance from the Special Awards Review Committee, to make the following changes to the ROM point system.

1.        ROM show status will continue to be approved by the Board in advance.  There will not be a pre-designated number of ROM points assigned to a particular show.  Any ROM designated show has the potential of a maximum of 3 points, dependent on meeting entry-qualifying numbers.  There will be no “stand alone” ROM shows.  All ROM designated shows not meeting the entry requirements for 3 ROM point status, will be by default eligible for 2 ROM point status, subject to the requirements of 2 point status.

2.        Qualifications for 3 point ROM status are as follows:

30 dogs total entry (colored and whites combined)

8 dogs of each sex and variety (i.e. 6 class dogs and 2 specials – technically 6 dogs in classes for Winners to get Winners ROM points and 2 additional entries, either class dogs or specials of the same sex, to qualify for BOV or BOS ROM points)

These are the minimum requirements.  The other rules, which apply, remain the same.  If there are insufficient dogs but sufficient bitches (subject to the 30 dog total) and the dog beats the bitch, then the dog qualifies for the same points as the bitch (or vice versa).  This also includes the provision for BOW beating BOS and qualifying for the same points as BOS.

3.        Qualifications for 2 point ROM status.

All other ROM designated shows will be eligible for 2 point ROM subject to the following criteria.

6 dogs of each sex and variety ( i.e. 5 class dogs and 1 special – technically 5 dogs in classes for Winners to get Winners ROM points and an additional entry, either a class dog or special of the same sex, to qualify for BOV or BOS ROM points).  Again, should there be insufficient entries in dogs and sufficient entries in bitches and the dog beats the bitch, then it qualifies for the same points as the bitch (or vice versa).

4.   In addition, the two minimum 3 pt. wins must be under different judges and on different
weekends, as well as gaining the usual 10 ROM points.

It is hoped these changes will give additional incentive for participation as well as increased opportunities to earn 3 ROM points. The situation will be closely monitored, and should these changes prove detrimental, the Board will revisit this situation in light of the additional developments.  The desire is to continue to develop a system which rewards dogs appropriately, without incurring undo hardship on the show going members in order to qualify for this award.

The Board initially agreed to implement these rules starting January 1, 2002.  Since there has been no vehicle for “official” notification of the membership, the Board has voted to delay total implementation of these rules until February 1, 2002.   For the shows in January 2002, whichever set of rules, these for 2002 or the previous rules for 2001, that are of greater advantage will apply.  It is the intention of the Board to be as fair and encouraging to the show going membership as possible, and by this temporary adjustment give sufficient time for notification and understanding to spread throughout the membership.  If you or anyone you know has questions or comments, please feel free to contact any Board member and share your question or comment.
